WILL
OF COL. ROBERT FERGUSON, SR.
b. 1701 Scotland
d. 1794 Lincoln Co., NC
In
the name of God Amen. I, Robert Ferguson of the state of North Carolina
and the
county of Lincoln, sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and
memory, thanks
be to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my
body, and that
it is appoint-ed unto all men once to die, I do make and
publish this my last
Will and Testament, recommending my soul to God who
gave it and my body to the
earth to be buried with decent burial at the
discretion of my executors hereafter
named, and for such worldly estate as
it hath pleased God to Bestow upon me,
I give devise and bequeath the same
in the following manner:
First, I give
and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Ferguson one bay horse
called Dick, her
saddle and bridle, her bed and bed clothes, and a chest,
the draper and furniture
thereon, all the pots and pans and kitchen
utensils, also two cows and six sheep
and her living on the place and in the
house we now live in with the use of
the barn, stable, and cleared land
during her life, all for her own comfortable
support as for the support,
sustance and bringing up and schooling of my small
children; but if she
marries again she is from thence forth to have only the
use of one half of the lease land.
Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my son John
one cow and a year old heifer.
Third, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary,
married to James Falls,
one two year old heifer.
Forthly, I give and bequeath
unto my son Robert, a horse called Britian
and a black stallion colt; also my
thick cloth coat and my green coat.
Sixthly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter
Sarah a note on Malion Henry
Eags; also a saddle and bridle; a bed and bed clothes;
spinning wheel and one cow.
Seventhly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth
one black mare
called Kate's filly; a saddle and bridle; bed and bed clothes
and spinning wheel and one cow.
Eightly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter
Esther her choice of a bay
heifer or a bay mare three years old as she pleases,
and the other to my
son Thomas; also to her I bequeath a saddle and bridle, bed
and bed clothes,
a spinning wheel and one cow.
Ninthly, I give and bequeath
to my two youngest sons Thomas and Andrew all
my lands to be equally divided
between them according to quantity and
quality, to them their assigns for ever.
Also I bequeath unto my son
Thomas my velvet tucker, and the residue of my estate
not already
disposed of with all my books and plantation tools and household
furniture
and the iron I have provided for to make cart tallow to be and remain
on
the plantation for the use of my wife and sons Thomas and Andrew whilst
she
live there. Trustees are Jordian Charles McLean and John Falls guardians.
