*Colonel
Robert Ferguson, Sr. born 1701 Scotland
died 1794 Lincoln County, North
Carolina
biographical and/or anecdotal:
JOHN FERGUSON was in the first
emigration from Ulster Province, Ireland to
Worcester, MA. He received one-sixtieth
share in the deed of Col. John
Stoddard bought by a group of Ulstermen on Oct.
20, 1738. The first
meeting of the proprietors in the new settlement took place
on Aug. 6,
1740 at the home of John Ferguson in what was later known as Pelham,
MA.
John was a selectman, town treasurer, assessor and active in the affairs
of
the town. His children, all born in Ireland, were grown when he settled in
MA. Known children, though not in order, were: 1. John, Jr. 2. Samuel 3.
William
4. James, mar. 4 Dec 1748 to Esther Thornton and served in the
Revolution. 5.
Robert.
NOTE: There has been some debate as to whether this was actually the father
of Robert Ferguson, Sr., as there is bound to be with any facts that are 400
years old, but it is generally felt by the ald genealogists that he was
Robert's
father.
NOTE; According to legend, upheld by research, three related Fergusons
come to this country together. John went to New York, George went to
Georgia
and Robert went to Maryland. It is believed that all Fergusons
of VA, MD, NC,
& TN are descended from Robert.
